Scratch Massive never do what is expected of them, and nobody’s complaining! It was already the case in 2003 with “Enemy & Lovers”, the LP that marked their birth and showcased electric guitars as well as a decidedly rock style at a time when electronic music was all the rage. In 2007, once the return of rock was acknowledged by all, the duo ventured off towards new horizons with “Time”, a fearless free dive into ten years of techno fascination !
Still set in their expectation-defying ways, this time around Scratch Massive have delved into the past and “Nuit De Rêve” (Dream Night), their new album, is like travelling back in time to the 84-86 era, right at the pounding heart of new wave.
With amazing featurings as Jimmy Somerville, D. Agust from GusGus, Koudlam or Chloe, “Nuit De Rêve” is simply a somptuous and melancholic album in the noblest sense of the word, which stems more from nostalgia for a state of mind than for an era in which experimentation and the first synthesisers changed the concept of pop forever.
The perfect record for our times then: a terribly 2011 album that takes place in the 80s!

Les Scratch Massive ne sont jamais là où on les attend et c’est tant mieux ! Si “Enemy & Lovers ”, qui signait la naissance du groupe en 2003, introduisait une écriture très rock, à une époque qui ne jurait que par l’électronique, leur second album “Time ”s’offrait une plongée sans concession dans dix années de fascination techno.
“Nuit De Rêve “, leur nouvel album, est un voyage dans le temps dont l’horloge interne aurait été programmée sur la période 84-86, en plein coeur palpitant de la new-wave.
Ouverture – grandiose, des nappes de synthés glaciales, dévoilent la bande son d’un film imaginaire d’où se succèdent des collaborations précieuses et inspirées : Koudlam, sur un «Waiting for a Sign “, ténébreux, brut et puissant, puis Jimmy Sommerville l’icône absolue des eighties, sur “Take Me There “, Daniel Agust de Gus Gus, sur un “Paris “ lent et magistral, quand le sépulcral “Closer ”, où s’invite Chloé, déambule dans les méandres de rêves immoraux.
Entre une électronique 80’s naïve et séduisante, des odyssées scellant la rencontre imaginaire entre Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis et John Carpenter, et la noirceur synthétique d’un dancefloor décadent, “Nuit de Rêve “ se fait l’écho d’une mélancolie noble , en cultivant la nostalgie d’un état d’esprit où l’expérimentation et les premiers synthétiseurs ont laissé une marque indélébile à la musique pop, telle que nous la vivons aujourd’hui.
